Just Resigned Finish Like a Winner
Just Resigned Finish Like a Winner Securing a new role is no mean feat; new research by Lever suggests an average of every 1 in 100 candidates is hired. Needless to say, if youve managed to bag the new role, youve fought the good fight and beaten the odds. This is cause for great celebration! Once youve let the great news sink in, your attention will no doubt quickly turn to the resignation process, which can be a difficult, especially if you really respect your current company and dont like letting people down (which you arent, but it can sometimes feel that way). Stay professional You know how important it is to end on a high; to work your notice well and finish like a winner, so you must tread carefully and make educated decisions. Your notice period will be your last chance to solidify a lasting legacy, and not the time to burn any bridges. After all, you never know who youll end up crossing paths with in future. An enjoyable, successful notice period begins with you making sure you do the right thing by your boss and organisation, regardless of whether the role thats won you over is the opportunity of a lifetime (but you still like your current position), or simply a Get Out of Jail Free card (and youre just hoping the grass is greener on the other side). In short, always be professional, thankful and clear about your resignation. Prepare an official letter and speak to your boss in private (and make sure theyre the first person in your company you speak to about your plans to exit). If your new employer has asked you to start earlier than your contracted notice period, you can discuss with your current boss having some flexibility on this, but do know that its your current employers right to have you honour your contract, so dont kick up a fuss if your attempt to negotiate gets knocked back. Always re-read your current employment contract before you resign, in case there are further clauses in there that govern how your departure has to be played out. Seek professional advice if you come up against bits youre unsure of. Be gracious understanding Everyone moves jobs from time to time its a natural part of most peoples careers. That doesnt mean everyone will be immediately happy for you, especially if you leaving will impact them in a big way and they currently rely heavily upon you. When the news is broken to various teams within the business, be sure to keep a smile on your face and dont expect everyone to respond in the way you might. Respect your colleagues and their right to react how they feel fit, and respect yourself too, staying proud of your accomplishment and decision. Dont be alarmed when relationships with various individuals begin to change; its only natural to notice a shift in demeanour while they plan for your impending departure. Start your handover early Dont leave your colleagues or your boss to clean up your unfinished business after youve left. Start getting your ducks in a row as early as possible, sort out your files, records and administration, and put together an easy-to-follow handover document that explains the status of your current affairs and what you expect might arise when you leave, together with next steps advice. Gradually let necessary stakeholders know you are leaving dont let them learn of your exit from an undeliverable email message. Identify who their best point of contact will be when you leave, and facilitate that introduction. It will make everyones life a lot easier, and will show your current employer you genuinely care about the company and its future. Once youve wrapped up your loose ends, try to find additional ways you can help. Write how to lists if you want to, but just try to look for ways to share some of your skills with existing teams. Be the change you want to see in the office Positivity. Positivity. Positivity. Make this your mantra. Staying upbeat and positive is your best bet at making your notice period as smooth as possible. Avoid gossiping, slacking off and reducing the quality of your output at all costs even if youre absolutely itching to get out of your current role and into your new one! Lowering your standards before you leave will completely undo all of your hard work to date. Dont do it to yourself. Stay strong! Clean up for a clean conscience Youd think this was fairly just common sense, but youd be surprised Empty your drawers. Wipe your keyboard (then look at the cloth, gross). Clean your screen. Take your notepads home or get rid of them dont leave them for your replacement to find on their first day, its just sloppy. Leave the slate clean for the next person. Do all these things and youll truly be able to enjoy your notice period, and reap the rewards of fond memories, great connections and a new sense of fulfilment and freedom!

When you Fall Out of Love with your Job
When you Fall Out of Love with your Job When you Fall Out of Love with your Job We have all had really bad days at work. Sometimes these can be so awful that you leave work in a rage vowing never to return again. However, having a bad day is a terrible reason for leaving a job. There may be lots of reasons for wanting to look for employment elsewhere, but not all of them are really valid reasons for wanting to leave. Lets take a look at some truly awful reasons that people have actually used to leave a job and why it may not be the best course of action to take. Having a bad dayYou are not alone! Just about everyone has some bad days at work and feel like throwing in the towel. However, stop and think before hastily writing out a hand-written resignation letter. Reacting in the heat of the moment without thinking ahead can mean trouble. Have you got another job to go to? How will you pay your bills until you find another job? What about references â" how will you get a good work reference if you left under a cloud?Take a deep breath and count to ten. Approach this constructively. Sit down and make a list of all the things you enjoy about your job. Include all the bonuses that you may not immediately appreciate about it, such as nice work colleagues, a short commute, free secure car parking, handy for the shops and banks etc. Putting things into perspective this way can help prevent just one or two bad things from clouding your whole judgement.I hate my boss! You love your job but your relationship with your boss isnt the easiest. When you dont get along with your boss it can make your working day more difficult. However, this isnt the best reason to leave a job that you love.If you work within a company with a line manager above your immediate boss, then you should approach them about the issues you are having. If this isnt possible, then talk to your HR department to see how they can help. Your boss may not be aware of your feelings and knowing what issues you are facing can often result in a more positive change of behaviour towards yo u.You feel taken advantage ofIf you are feeling overworked, or like it is always you who is handed the most difficult tasks to achieve within your team, then it is easy to fall out of love with your job. Leaving isnt always the only solution here. Try to pinpoint the exact reasons why you feel under pressure in your role. Does your boss overload you with work? Do you have trouble managing your time effectively? Do you say yes to every request for help coming from team mates or work colleagues? Do you never ask for help yourself?Try saying no, I am too busy to help you right now, to requests from others. Speak to your boss about the amount of work you are being given. Read up on some time-management skills and practices you could use and would find useful. If you are overwhelmed â" try asking for help for a change. The job is too boring!Once you have learned just about every aspect of your role, a job can start to become pretty boring after a while. It can feel like you are just g oing through the motions each day without finding it fulfilling.Instead of looking at this negatively, try to think that you are now so good at your job and you are so on top of everything that is has become too easy for you. Is a new job really the answer here? Being bored can lead you to look elsewhere, but what about looking in-house instead. Most companies offer extra training and career progression opportunities. You can also ask for extra responsibilities at work to add a bit more of a challenge to your day. Most bosses will not be aware that your job need a bit of reinvigorating unless you speak up about it.The commute is killing me!Everyone gets frustrated or overwhelmed when trying to navigate busy roads, buses or trains and streets full of commuters. Your travel to work and home can add potentially hours to your working day, but it is still not a good reason to quit a job that you enjoy. Try discussing some flexible working arrangements with your boss if this is possible . It may be good to work out a plan where you leave an hour later or earlier for work for a few mornings a week to avoid the rush-hour traffic. You can compromise by staying later or leaving early by one hour on these days and by doing this you will also be avoiding the worst of the traffic home.If you are stuck on a long train journey for your commute, why not make the most of the travel time by doing something constructive with your time. Many train commuters will use this time to get ahead of themselves by sorting out emails and messages for work. Some will get creative and learn a new language via a language app on their phone, or some will simply listen to an audio book and allow themselves to become lost in the plot of a good story. previous article How to Answer the Interview Question âWhat are Your Weaknesses and Strengthsâ in a positive way next article Two Tones â" A Black and White Resume Template Design Freebie you might also like6 Online Gigs You Can Do During Coronavirus Outbreak (To Offset Your Lost Income)

Are YOU Laboring in Stable Misery - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Are YOU Laboring in Stable Misery - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Editorâs Note: This blog is a modified excerpt from professional âheadhunterâ and bestselling job-hunting book author Skip Freemanâs next book in the âHeadhunterâ Hiring Secrets series of job-hunting books, Career Stalled? Publication is scheduled for late fall. ________________________________________________________ We human beings have an incredible capacity to tolerate and adapt to a very wide range of situations and conditions, including ones that make us absolutely miserable. As this is being written, there are currently millionsâ"yes, you read that correctly, millions!â"of men and women who find themselves in jobs of relatively long-term duration that have made, and continue to make, them absolutely miserable! This condition I refer to as âstable misery.â Rare indeed is the man or woman who actually embraces change, and that is one of the prime reasons why so many of us stay in miserable jobs. Hey, it might not be all that great of a job, and yes, I am pretty miserable in it, we reason with ourselves, but at least itâs âsafe, itâs âstable.â We therefore labor on in âstable misery,â seemingly unaware that the myth of any genuine âstabilityâ or âsafetyâ in todayâs job market is just that, a myth. Your âstable,â âsafeâ job can, and quite often does, simply disappear into thin air when you least expect it, and certainly when you are least prepared for it. As that great American sage Cher Bono (of âSonny and Cherâ fame) said, âThis (life) ainât no âdress rehearsal.ââ In other words, this is it. This is your life! Youâd better make the most of it now that you can because youâre not going to get a second chance on this old Earth! The reasons most people give for staying in a miserable job, one that no longer provides them much satisfaction at all or any sense of accomplishment, are many, but chief among them are that they . . . Believe that work is not meant to be âfunâ and that following oneâs passions will simply make one poor. (FACT: If there isnât at least some fun in your job, you definitely need to find a new one!) Believe they canât afford to make a change. (FACT: Maybe thatâs true and maybe itâs not. Youâll never actually know until you investigate other career opportunities, right?) Donât know how to change their situation. (FACT: While that may be true, it is relatively easy to find out how to change your situation!) Believe theyâre too old to make a change. (FACT: Is this really a reason or is it an excuse? Nearly 3 million of the 4 million jobs created since 2009 have been landed by men and women 55 and older!) Are not entirely sure what else they could be doing. (FACT: an easy way to find out is to investigate the current job market.) Lack self-confidence and really donât believe theyâre good enough to do what they really want to do. (FACT: If youâve survived and kept your job in the toughest job market in recent memory, you either have a lot more to offer than you may believe you doâ"or you have started wearing a helmet to work and have become really, really good at ducking!) Are simply terrified of making a change. (FACT: While change can indeed be frightening to many people, what they should be more frightened of is inertia, i.e., simply being âstuck in place.â) Keep telling themselves that one day theyâll do something to change their situation, just not now. (FACT: There has never been a better time in recent memory to step out and make a job change if you are currently employed. Ask yourself this question: If not now, when? Ever? OK, maybe tomorrow . . . or maybe next week . . . next month . . .next year. . . .) You can Change Your Situation! I realize that you may have become so âbogged downâ by your current job that you havenât been able to pay proper attention to what you must do to capitalize on the many career opportunities that are available in todayâs job market for people like you, i.e., those who are currently employed and have shown themselves to be true âsurvivors.â My advice? If you believe your career has indeed âstalled,â and you would like to begin seriously investigating how you might actually advance your career, then you need to make sure that you brand yourself in such a way as to attract the attention of âheadhunters,â hiring managers and in-house corporate recruiters. Here is where you should begin: LinkedIn â" While you may be getting tired of hearing me extol the virtues of this professional networking site, it remains nonetheless true that LinkedIn is usually âthe first stop shopâ for âheadhunters,â hiring managers and corporate recruiters who are searching for TOP talent to fill their open jobs. Make sure you are on the site and have a professional presence, as well as a complete presence, on it! Your résumé â" Iâm betting that you havenât even looked at your résumé in years, right? And even if you have looked at it recently, I am also betting that it wouldnât begin to âpass musterâ in todayâs extremely competitive, demanding job market. There are many fine reference books available today on how to create a job-winning résumé. Make sure you avail yourself of some of these references and either create your own job-winning résumé or seek professional assistance! Get more involved in your profession â" Are you now actively involved in professional activities and/or associations outside of your own company? If not, then you need to become active (or more active). Not only does such activity provide great networking opportunities, it also shows prospective hiring officials that you are dedicated to your chosen profession and care enough to be making continuous contributions to it. If you are able, consider writing a professional article (or blog) for an associationâs publication and/or website. Volunteer to speak at professional meetings, or to chair important committees. The opportunities to become more involved in your profession are actually limited only by your time constraints and your imagination, and all certainly can pay you dividends when it comes time to be considered for a new job! Adjust your attitude â" If you are currently miserable in your job it certainly will come through to other people. Make sure it doesnât. In order to feel positive, you must think positive and act positive. Donât let other people, including people at your current job, assign a âworthâ to you that isnât warranted. You have a LOT to offer, so act like it! Now finally, once you finish reading this blog I want you to find the nearest mirror. Yes, thatâs correct, the nearest mirror. Now, look into that mirror. What do you see? Iâll tell you what you should seeâ"the only person on this Earth who can change your current job situation, if you are in fact now laboring in âstable misery.â Author: Skip Freeman is the author of âHeadhunterâ Hiring Secrets: The Rules of the Hiring Game Have Changed . . . Forever! and is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The HTW Group (Hire to Win), an Atlanta, GA, Metropolitan Area Executive Search Firm. The Most Engaged UK Recruitment Women on LinkedIn
The Most Engaged UK Recruitment Women on LinkedIn LinkedIn UK have compiled a top 10 power user list of the most engaged UK women in the recruiting industry on the worldâs largest professional network. The power user list, which includes professionals from across the UK and from a mixture of large and small recruiting agencies as well as large organisations such as the BBC and Harrods, is a snapshot of the wide range of talent acquisition professionals using LinkedIn in their career. LinkedIn compiled the list by looking at a range of engagement metrics including status update frequency, network strength, engagement in groups and a number of other factors. This power user list comes off the back of new research from LinkedIn which shows that 66% of professional women in the UK believe it is possible to have it all (fulfilling career, relationship and children) in todays working environment. The research also identifies that the majority of women in the UK (62%) define professional success as having the right balance between work and personal life, compared to 40% five to ten years ago. Here at The Undercover Recruiter we like to share best practices from the recruitment world so we set out to ask these women their best LinkedIn tips. Here is the list: Laura King of The Curve Group: The advice I always give people (recruiters or otherwise) is that LinkedIn is a tool and should be used as such. Keep your profile up to date and fully populated. Network widely, join groups, read discussions, share updates, seek opinions, engage and respond. LinkedIn is a networking tool and not a candidate pool as a recruiter, yes, you will find candidates via LI, and yes, you will contact them via LI but a good recruiter will also be looking for MI (all the time!), to build their network (widely), to map the market and will be happy to chat, share market info and advise if possible. Jennifer Howlett of Vertex Solutions International: My tip would be to use LinkedIn to share and talk about what affects you at work. As someone who is really just starting out, LinkedIn is a valuable learning tool as I talk to CEOs and Directors on a daily basis. Grace Solanki of the BBC I guess my best LinkedIn tip would be to try and be enagaged and keep in contact with them on at least on a monthly basis with your contacts so you know what is going on in the Recruitment world in my case. It gives both yourself and them a chance to have a catch up and see if they or I can help in terms of recriting for a role. Also advertising roles on your status on Linkedin is a great way to connect with great connections or search for people and add to your connections list for future reference. Zoe Lloyd of Arrows Group Sharing unique content in your field allows you to open debate with connections, for them to share to others outside your network and places you as hub for discussion in your network. Donna Price at Harrods Thereâs no need to post for postingâs sake. Be genuine in what you âlikeâ and share engaging with your LinkedIn community should be organic. The results derived from this approach will be much more fruitful and long-lasting. Natasha Mills of OCC Computer Personnel I think the most important thing to remember whilst using Linkedin is to make it personal!! Dont just be a jobs feed! People like to know they are dealing with a human being. Leesa Fernandes at Thomson Reuters Use LinkedIn as a way to connect with and remember everyone you meet at networking events, conferences, social gatherings â" you never know when a connection may become useful or when you might become useful to them in the future. I also use LinkedIn as a way to research people before I meet them â" having some background on them makes conversation a lot more relevant and engaging. Ella Liang at Portland Resourcing Keep LinkedIn messages or InMails short, sweet and professional Keep your LinkedIn profile updated with latest news Use LinkedIn as a job board update jobs in related groups, your status updates and even on your profile Keep your eyes open on the news and update in your network then react! e.g. say congratulations, like or comment someones update, endorse skills etc Expand LinkedIn network/connections every day Download LinkedIn on ALL mobile devices and check it whenever you have a minute Keep calm and LinkedIn Work hard and play hard Do you have any useful LinkedIn tips? How to Build Your Personal Brand With Outreach
How to Build Your Personal Brand With Outreach Photo Credit â" Pexels.comYour personal brand tells the world who you are. Many people may choose to create and maintain a personal brand to help them advance their career, get new jobs or build a business of their own. However, a personal brand doesnât come by simply creating an idea of how you would like to be perceived. If you want to connect your name to the idea youâve created, you need to get that idea out there the right way.Achieving a strong personal brand will happen naturally, but that doesnât mean you shouldnât help promote it. Unfortunately, getting your personal brand noticed isnât always easy. It takes consistent effort and dedication from your end.evalThere are a few outreach techniques you can implement to get your name noticed. If youâre looking for new ways to use outreach to build and grow your personal brand, here are a few ideas you may want to try.1. Build Lasting Relationships Online and Offline Having a community is one of the easiest ways to gain support and a strong audience. When you have a group of loyal readers, followers or viewers, you will already have a solid foundation to grow your brand from. However, you canât expect a community to come running to you. If you want to make a lasting impression on your audience, you need to put yourself in front of them and prove youâre worth connecting with.Use both online tools and offline events to network with individuals in your industry or field. Social media, groups and online forums are all excellent opportunities for finding like-minded individuals who may be interested in hearing your opinion or insight. If youâre looking to meet people offline, check out conferences, business events or networking opportunities in your area. When growing these relationships, be sure to focus on connecting first. Before you start telling them about your brand and what you do, find a common interest, share an experience or give a natural opinion. By showing that youâre interested in a genuine connection, you can develop a strong relationship.2. Use Established Platforms to Get Your Name Out When attempting to grow your audience, getting your name in front of the right people can be a bit of a struggle. With so many websites, blogs and portfolios on the web, readers have a lot to weed through in determining what is worth their attention. To better reach your audience, try getting your information on an already established platform or page. There are a few effective ways you can do this, including guest blogging, article collaborations, interviews or webinars.evalHaving your name listed in a professional directory, like this listing for Rob Mericle on Loopnet, is another great option for pointing readers in your direction. His listing has over 320 views and a link back to his companyâs website, along with a summary with company and branding information. Visitors can also leave recommendations for visitors to read.By using an already established platform, youâre putting your name in front of a trusted audience. Because the readers of that platform value the information shared on that blog, podcast or website, they will automatically view your brand as credible and attention-worthy. Through getting a stamp of approval from someone your audience already trusts, they will be more willing to view and accept your brand.3. Focus on Growth Through Online AdvertisementsIf youâre serious about growing your personal brand, you may want to consider purchasing some ad space to better attract your audience. While you may think online advertisements are just for businesses or companies looking to sell items, they can also be beneficial for bringing attention to your brand or name.Depending on where your target audience is, you should look into purchasing ads on Facebook, Twitter or other social media platforms. Each of these platforms will allow you to select a specific demographic who will see your ads. If your target audience is not on social media often, you may want to consider putting ads on Google instead.evalOnline advertisements can give you more control over what people see when they search for your name. By getting the ads in front of your audience, you can direct them straight to your website, blog or portfolio where they can learn more about you and what you can provide. No matter your reason for wanting to develop and grow a personal brand, youâll need to do some work to help inspire a conversation around you. If youâre hoping to create a personal brand that shows who you are and what youâre capable of, donât sit back and wait for it to take off on its own.To seriously promote your personal brand, use these outreach techniques to help stimulate the process. With lasting relationships, already established platforms and online advertisements, your personal brand will continue to grow into something you are proud of. Consistent effort and outreach can help you accomplish your personal branding goals.

Do You Deserve An Amazing Career - Kathy Caprino
Do You Deserve An Amazing Career (As featured on Kathys Huffington Post blog) As one who works with thousands of professional women each year to transform their careers , Iâve been asked almost every question you can think of about professional life. Iâve also observed over these past nine years what holds women back most from having âknock-your-socks-offâ success and fulfillment in their professional lives, and these blocks are not what youâd expect. Most professionals I work with have achieved a good deal of outward success â" responsibility, promotions, authority, recognition, supervision of large staff and budgets, etc. â" but for the majority, something vital is missing, and they know it in their hearts and souls. They canât seem to put their fingers on what they want most, or how to get it. Itâs like a secret treasure that they keep hunting for everywhere â" under every rock, in every new job, relationship, boss, organization, country, entrepreneurial venture but they still canât find it. Iâve seen that almost everyone has at least one âpower gapââ" an area in which they just donât have the confidence, self-worth, self-esteem or will power to take them to the next level that they so desperately long for. The great news is that all of this can change, if you commit to, and invest in, doing the inner and outer work required. What are these secret career success steps that are missing for so many professionals today, and can everyone access what they need to, to build an amazing career? The first truth is that while having an amazing career is a potential that everyone can grasp, only a relatively few will step up and commit to it. I remember speaking with a coach in the Tony Robbins organization who told me, âI donât care what my clients want â" everybody âwantsâ a thousand things. I care about what theyâll commit to.â I subscribe to that same philosophy about career transformation. Why? Because doing whatâs required to absolutely LOVE your career â" to be proud of who and what you are in the world and how youâre of service, and know youâre reaching your highest and best potential, takes a great deal of courage, work, commitment, energy, trust, and perseverance â" and it takes walking to the farthest edge of your limitations, and jumping into the scary new territory that is necessary to take you higher. Are you one of those who WILL commit to doing what it takes to have an amazing career, or just dream about it? Check out below the top five steps you have to take, and see if you feel ready for whatâs required: The five core steps to create an amazing career Step 1: Step back to understand the lessons your life and career are trying to teach you. Your life is teaching you lessons, but most people just arenât getting them. Every day, you receive powerful guidance from your life about what youâre doing right and what youâre doing wrong (in terms of getting closer to what you want most out of life). Most just donât recognize these messages as clear beacons to show you the way to go. The first step to an amazing career is to make a deep, critical and fearless evaluation of where you are today whatâs working, what isnât, and what you want most. This includes gaining an intimate understanding of what makes you tick â" your personality, values, needs, dreams, legacy, and your power âgapsâ â" those areas of weakness or insecurity that keep you stalled and stuck. Until you get off the hamster wheel and do this intensive work of exploration and discovery, youâll continue to spin your wheels wondering why youâre not happier. Is Resume Writing Business Profitable?
Is Resume Writing Business Profitable? What is a resume writing business? It is actually a full time job to be aware and realize that it will take effort to make a living online. Many people are under the impression that they can create a resume easily in their sleep and get through the entire process and just ignore the truth that resumes are written business letters. A resume is not something that you will have time to put together unless you have at least some experience to help you out.Resume writing business jobs are made by those that have had some knowledge in this field. It is not something that is easy to do, nor is it a simple thing to become skilled at. It is one of the most important things for one to understand the various dynamics of resume writing before attempting to start one on their own. Even if you try to simply do a couple of things to make sure that you write a good resume, you might end up losing money and your credibility to many different companies as well.A s uccessful resume is what will help you stand out from all the other applicants. It is a way to show employers how you stand out from the rest of the pack. It is also something that can help you get ahead in your career, regardless of your particular field. When you are writing a resume for a resume writing business, it will be your duty to go beyond what is necessary. What you put on your resume will be something that can affect you personally in the end, so it is necessary to go above and beyond what is required to put yourself out there. In most cases, your resume will be needed to get you the job that you want, whether you have had several interviews or a potential employer is just calling you because he wants to give you an interview. Since so many resumes are getting dumped into desks every day, you will find that there are some things that will work best for certain people. It can be fun and interesting to see what they choose and to find out what else works well.Resume writing business is a great idea if you need the money. You will need to decide what kind of work you are looking for as well as how much time you are willing to spend on it. There are many types of writing that you can do, and it will be up to you as to which option you find most appealing. If you are looking for resume writing business opportunities, it is always important to do your research before you commit to anything. Most people end up getting more than they bargained for because they gave up too soon. Before signing up with a company, you should have a lot of information to hand, and a budget that you can stick to. Knowing what you want to get out of it and how much you are willing to spend on it will ensure that you get your money's worth. You should be aware that when working online, you may find that you are working in a rather niche market place. This is a good thing as long as you know what you are doing and what your needs are. It is important to seek out information on your o wn to learn the ins and outs of the industry.Creating your own resume can help you find the right position for you. You can make it a part time job or a full time job, depending on how much time you are willing to put into it. You will find that once you begin working online, this can become a very profitable business.
